Analysis
The M5 brings the Neural Accelerator GPU architecture previously reserved for Pro/Max chips, so on-device AI performance jumps noticeably over the M4. For everyday professional use — editing, development, Adobe Creative Cloud — it remains one of the most dependable laptops on the market, with the added benefit of being more compact than the 16" model.
What we like
- M5 GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core
- High-end Liquid Retina XDR display
- More compact and lighter than the 16" model
- 1TB SSD as standard
Worth knowing
- Expensive versus equivalent Windows laptops
- 16GB can be tight for 8K video or large AI models
- Not upgradeable after purchase
Professionals who want the balance between M5 power and portability, without the size or price of the 16" model.
